VP of Sales
Meet Gary Benson
I attended and graduated college in Wichita Falls, TX (North Texas) and for a few years could not quite pinpoint what I really wanted to do the rest of my life, but then a friend asked me to visit with him about a possible insurance career. I didn’t quite run the other way, but it was close!
Six months later, in late 1983, there I was jumping in with both feet trying to survive primarily in life insurance sales. To my own surprise, I did ok, good enough, I guess, to attract the attention of a small insurance company that was looking for a regional sales manager in the Houston area. So with my very young family, we ventured off to South Texas.
I learned a lot but missed the sales side and directly helping people, so just a couple of years later, I transitioned backed into sales and running my own agency. In 2003 I had the opportunity to partner with Insurance One, a large Texas-based independent agency, but I continue to own and operate my agency, and for now a little over 39 years, I’m still at it.
Outside of insurance, I love working in the yard and really just being outdoors doing most anything. That includes attending as many activities as possible among our ten grandchildren. I know, that’s crazy, isn’t it? But we love every minute we get to hang with them. Ranging in age from 4 years to 22, they all present something unique, but a favorite time we have is the week each one gets to spend with us individually during the summer months where they get to be the king or queen of the house for a week. That translates into spoiling them rotten, but that’s ok!
A favorite vacation activity would find my wife and I on a cruise ship— 36 down and counting. We also love serving at our church, Hope Church Montgomery, and watching just about any type of sports activity.
